Emerging Tech: Nothing Phone (2a) Spotted on TUV Cert

Nothing is gearing up to release its third smartphone by the end of next month. This device is expected to be a more affordable version of the Nothing Phone (2). The London-based company could call it the Nothing Phone (2a).

As the launch of the smartphone nears, we’ve seen it on multiple certification websites already. However, this time, the phone has appeared in a TUV listing, which has confirmed a specification that it will retain from its bigger sibling.

Nothing Phone (2a) launch nears, TUV-certified

Nothing Phone (2a) has passed the TUV certification website with model number A142. The listing has confirmed that the phone will retain a 45W fast charging speed similar to the Nothing Phone (2a). This is certainly good news, as slow charging speeds are not the norm in the segment in which the phone is expected to be unveiled.

Further, what differentiates Nothing’s fast charging tech is the use of the universal USB Power Delivery standard. This standard is also used by iPhone, Google Pixel and Samsung Galaxy devices. On the other hand, Chinese phones opt for a proprietary fast charging standard that is incompatible with phones from other brands.

If the Nothing Phone (2a) indeed supports 45W USB-PD charging, the phone might not have a charger in the box like Nothing’s previous devices. USB-PD chargers tend to be more expensive but can charge a range of products, from laptops to iPads and phones. Wireless charging is not expected to be available on the Nothing Phone (2a).
