Dehradun: Several residents of the Jhanjra area in Uttarakhand’s Dehradun on Tuesday following an incident of chlorine gas leak causing many people to complain of breathlessness. A senior police official said that the residents were sent to safe places and no casualties have been reported yet
As per the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dehradun, Ajay Singh, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and other security forces rushed to the site as soon as they received the information about the incident. "On receiving information about people facing difficulty in breathing due to leakage in the chlorine cylinder kept in the empty plot in the Jhanjra area of Prem Nagar police station in Dehradun, Police, NDRF, SDRF and fire team reached the spot and are taking action for safe disposal," Singh told news agency ANI
Speaking to the news agency, Sahaspur MLA Sahdev Singh Pundir said, "Seven cylinders of Chlorine were laying at an empty plot here for quite some time. There was a leakage and it could have turned into a big disaster however due to the coordinated efforts of the authorities the situation was managed."
