Is the Mahindra BE 6e worth the investment? A comprehensive look at price, features, bookings, and deliveries

Mahindra & Mahindra has officially launched the highly anticipated BE 6e with introductory prices starting at Rs 18.90 lakh (ex-showroom). Along with the BE 6e, the company also unveiled the XEV 9e. Mahindra has currently disclosed the price only for the base trim of the BE 6e, which is named Pack One. The complete price list will be announced later. The two electric SUVs will open for bookings in late January 2025, with deliveries set to begin at the end of February 2025.

The BE 6e measures 4,371mm in length, 1,907mm in width, and 1,627mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,775mm, which is the same as the XEV 9e. The coupe-SUV is equipped with 19-inch aero-optimised wheels and 245/55 section tyres. There is also an option for larger 245/50 R20-inch wheels. Mahindra claims that the BE 6e has a ground clearance of 207mm and a turning circle of less than 10 meters. It offers 455 litres of boot space, along with an additional 45 litres of frunk storage.

The BE 6e has a dual 12.3-inch floating screen. The system is powered by 24 GB RAM, 128 GB storage, and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 processor, claimed to be the fastest automotive-grade chipset. The infotainment system also offers three pre-set themes—Calm, Cozy, and Club with signature tunes, ambient lighting, and climate control adjustments.

The BE 6e features a segment-first augmented reality head-up display, a two-spoke, flat-bottom steering wheel with an illuminated Mahindra logo, and a floating centre console. The centre console includes an aircraft thrust lever-style drive mode selector, a rotary dial for drive modes, a wireless charging pad, and cupholders. The roof has an aircraft-style control panel for lighting and sunroof controls, along with unique strap-type interior door handles.

Top-spec variants include dual-zone climate control, a large panoramic sunroof with integrated multi-colour lighting, laminated glass that blocks UV rays, auto park assist, an in-car camera, electronic parking brake, a Dolby Atmos 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, ambient lighting, powered driver's seat with memory function, 5G connectivity with in-built Wi-Fi, OTA updates, a Level 2 ADAS suite, 360-degree cameras, and 7 airbags. The BE 6e also features a BYOD (bring your own device) function, allowing users to plug in external devices and stream content.

The Mahindra BE 6e will be available with two battery pack options – a 59kWh unit and a 79kWh unit, both featuring Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) chemistry. The 59kWh variants produce 228hp, while the 79kWh variants deliver 281hp, with torque rated at 380Nm for both. At launch, the BE 6e will be offered in rear-wheel drive. Mahindra claims a 0-100km/h acceleration time of 6.7 seconds for the higher-spec variant. The car offers three drive modes – Range, Everyday, and Race – along with a Boost mode for an additional 10 seconds of maximum torque. These specifications are identical to those of the XEV e9.

The larger battery pack provides an ARAI-claimed range of 682km, while the smaller battery pack offers an ARAI-certified range of 535km. Mahindra is offering a lifetime warranty on the battery pack and claims that it can charge from 20% to 80% in just 20 minutes using a 175kW DC fast charger.

Standard charging options include an 11.2kW AC charger (0-100% in 8hrs/6hrs for 79kWh/59kWh) or a 7.3kW AC charger (0-100% in 11.7hrs/8.7hrs for 79kWh/59kWh), which must be purchased separately. Other technical highlights of the BE 6e include adjustable regenerative braking, electric power steering with variable gear ratios, semi-active suspension, brake-by-wire technology, and disc brakes on all four wheels.
