Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal on Tuesday moved the ‘One Nation, One Election’ bills for introduction in the Lok Sabha.

Soon after it was introduced, Congress’s Manish Tewari opposed the Bill, saying, “The One Nation, One Election bills are an assault on the basic structure doctrine of the Constitution.

He further said, “The introduction and the consideration of the One Nation, One Election’ bills beyond the legislative competence of this House, urge the government to withdraw it.

Moments later, the Bill was opposed by Samajwadi Party member Dharmendra Yadav, who termed it as “an attempt by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to bring in ‘dictatorship’ in the country.”
