Radhika Apte has dabbled with multiple languages in films in her 14 year career so far. And in an interview that has gone viral on social media, she spoke about her experience of working in the Telugu industry.
She made some explosive revelations and said, “The industry I struggled the most with is Telugu. That is one industry that is so patriarchal, male dominant and sort of male chauvinistic, that it is unbearable. The way woman are treated and even their part in the films is like 'My man is god.’”
Apte added, “ They (film team) don't even ask the actors anything, because they are not in the mood and all. I constantly struggled and that is why I put an end to it.”
On playing different characters in her films
“I have been able to detach myself so far, but I also take away something from each of the characters. There is always something to take away even from the person that you meet. With this character of Durga in Mrs Undercover, it’s all about realizing your own strengths, your own abilities, and the fact that you are going to stand up for yourself and decide that you’re not going to take this shit from anybody.
She added, “This is basically her journey of realizing her self worth, and that is the case with every human being. Sometimes we treat ourselves too badly, we have a very bad impressions about ourselves. We are capable of so much more, far more than what we give ourselves credit for.”
