Prithvi Shaw's former coach Jwala Singh recently shared his thoughts on India batter's downfall in recent times. Notably, Shaw has been going through a tumultuous period in his cricketing career as he recently lost his place in Mumbai's Ranji Trophy squad for their third-round clash against Tripura.
However, he did manage to find a place in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024-25 but things got further worse for the 25-year-old as he went unsold in the IPL 2025 auction having kept his base price at INR 75 lakh. Once rated as the next big thing of Indian cricket to not being sold at the IPL auction, Shaw has witnessed the lowest moment in his career.
Recently, Shaw's former coach Jwala Singh revealed what may have resulted in his downfall in recent times and said that lack of work ethic and discipline could well be a factor.
"I think the process, which we call work ethic, so I feel if you are talented, talent is just a seed; to make it a tree, consistency is very important in that journey, and that consistency comes from your lifestyle, your work ethic, and discipline, so what I feel is that consistency is not with him. One can make a great start, which he did, but to stay at the top in international cricket, one has to improve his game all the time," said Jwala Singh on Shubhankar Mishra's YouTube show.
Further speaking ahead, he gave Sachin Tendulkar's example saying how he consistently refined his game throughout his international career. He also hailed Yashasvi Jaiswal for his work-ethic calling it a major difference between him and Shaw.
Yashasvi's work ethic is superb; he really works hard: Jwala Singh
"Even Sachin Tendulkar refined his game consistently, fine-tuned his game, and worked on his fitness and mental toughness. So, I feel a player goes off track only if he gets away from the process. You will not fall back if your process and work ethic are fine, so I feel players fail because of that. As far as Yashasvi is concerned, his work ethic is superb; he really works hard, and he knows what to do. That is the main difference," he added.
Meanwhile, Shaw's poor run continued in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024-25 as he got dismissed for a duck against Maharashtra on Wednesday, November 27. He earlier scored 33 (22) against Goa with the help of five fours and a six. The youngster is eager to find his form again soon to get back in contention to make it to the Indian team.
